Flooding
1.1	To ensure that sites and developments take due account of flood risk, and where it is present, take appropriate measures.
1.2	To reduce the risk of flooding on proposed development sites and adjacent areas of land
Cooling
1.3	To reduce the impact of mechanical ventilation and cooling devices.
Heat Island
1.4	To reduce the heat island effect inherent to urban areas through passive design measures. On warm summer days, the air in urban areas can be 6-8°F hotter than surrounding areas. Scientists call these areas "urban heat islands." This is due to building materials (particularly darker materials such as tarmac, and heavier materials such as concrete) absorbing and radiating heat.
Water Efficiency
1.5	To reduce the overall consumption of clean water for non-potable uses and to manage the run off of rain water from the site.
Sustainable Energy

1.13	To evolve a energy management scheme and provide the public with easy access to renewable energy information.
